Hee-hee - Thought this was a fun one! Okay, I should really stop taking quizzes and actually write something one of these days!

  • You Are 68% Open Minded

You are a very open minded person, but you're also well grounded.

Tolerant and flexible, you appreciate most lifestyles and viewpoints.

But you also know where you stand firm, and you can draw that line.

You're open to considering every possibility - but in the end, you stand true to yourself.

  • Arthurian Legends

Well, so today is normally our library day, but Glenn's working in town, so he has the car, and besides its ucky- windy-rainy-hailstorming out. (We even had some thunder and lightening! Little Zorro scolded me for not getting off the computer yet. )

So I went to renew the books that were due today online, and AAAACK! One failed because someone else had requested it. Of course, it would have to be the one that I'm currently reading, thouroughly entranced by, and only one-fourth of the way through. Ah well, we'll have to return it tonight, and then I can put it on my "hold request list." (Have I mentioned how much I adore the fact that our library has its catalog online?)

The book is "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley. For anyone unfamiliar with this book, it retells the Arthurian legend from the viewpoint of the women, namely Morgan Le Fay. My knowledge of the whole King Arthur thing is based mainly on Monty Python (Holy Grail) and Disney (Sword and the Stone) so I'm finding it thouroughly fascinating.

I'd like to see a timeline of when in history the King Arthur legend was set, because I strongly suspect it was near to the time just before the Powers That Be decided to start burning Wise Women and Midwives (aka 'witches') at the stake. I can already tell that the book is about the transfer and tension between a matriarchal and patriarchal society. Something I find endlessly fascinating.

Unfortunately, it looks like I will have to wait to finish reading the book.

  • It's still February

Whew! That week is over...now it's time to start a new one!

We had the homeschool science and learning fair on Wednesday morning, to which we took our marble project. It was fun to see the other projects, and chat with the parents. We have our next parents meeting in two weeks, and we're going to try and do an enrichment project for the kids in April. I really hope we get more people invloved with the Yahoo group - I think it can be a really great resource for all of us. I need to start one up just for the kids.

The weekend was nice, a good mix of goofing off and actually getting some things accomplished. Bananarama is rather enthralled with the whole instant messenger thing, and spent some time yesterday talking with both grandmas.

I worked on a custom order I had, and got it done. (Hurray!) Now I just have to get photos taken and send them to my customer for final approval. I also need to start looking into some craft shows to do for spring and summer. There was one in Twinkie flats, put on by the same people who did the "Crafts in the Country" but it's on the same weekend as the dance competetion - so we'll be a bit too busy that weekend!

Two weeks until the production of "The Vagina Monologues" I have worked so, so hard on my monologues this year, I'm very excited for the performances. I've got a difficult two monologues with, "Under the Burqua" and "My Vagina was my Village"

We're going to have a 'talk to the cast' thing after the show on Friday night. Yikes! It always seems like I end up getting tongue tied at those sorts of things. Ah well, at least Cheryl gave us some warning! And if you don't understand why women would talk about vaginas* all night, here's a link to the worldwide "V-Day" organization:
    Until The Violence Stops!

Although truly, the show is not simply about vaginas. It is nothing more nor less than about being a woman. I have more to say on that, but will wait until tommorow.

    Signing off,
    Julie
    Proud Vagina Warrior

  • Nooooooo....

    http://entertainment.tv.yahoo.com/entnews/va/20060222/114059968900.html

Old low budget horror movies should just. not. be. remade! They always, always, always miss the point and ruin the dang things. Part of their charm is the low budget crappiness, dangit, don't for the love of Freddy, let these people have lots of money to renake them!

  • You're an Expert Kisser

You're a kissing pro, but it's all about quality and not quantity

You've perfected your kissing technique and can knock anyone's socks off

And you're adaptable, giving each partner what they crave

When it comes down to it, your kisses are truly unforgettable

Huh, what d'ya know? I like kissing, but certainly never consided myself an expert...

  • Crap.
Well Crap. Crap crap and triple crap even.

The senate passed the anti-gay amendment.

It goes to the voters in November

I really really hope kindness, compassion, fairness, and equality win out, but I have my doubts.

I will be so ashamed to be an Idahoan if this amendment that actually limits the rights and freedoms of a whole portion of the population based solely on who they love becomes a part of our state constitution.

Love is love is love is love is love....the rest is just plumbing.

  • Because it's Valentine's day, and in the words of the incomparable Ms. Ani Difranco,
"No one can be free, till we're all on an even grade.."

    I give you this thought:

"America is engaged in a crucial conversation, a conversation about basic values of love, commitment, fairness, and freedom. In every state, in many families, good people are thinking and talking about how excluding same-sex couples from marriage harms them, their kids, and our country.

Americans are trying to find their way to understanding that our nation is curently a quilt of many different types of families, each of them working hard to live their lives, raise their children and contribute to the growth and security of their communities."

    --from http://www.freedomtomarry.org

Peace, love, and happiness to all!

  • Bigotry is not a part of our homeschool curriculum!

So, the legislators in our state are once again being jerks and trying to amend the State Constitution to ban gay marriage, and any kind of legal domestic partnership.

    These people are jerks.

And of course, the oh so lovely Idaho Coalition of Home Educators is right there rooting for this.

    The ICHE can bite. me.

Bigotry and a**holishness have no place in our homeschooling curriculum.

Allowing other people to have stable, loving relationships in no way threatens my stable, loving relationship, or my family.

  • So, I've been having a yukky day - but these are some things that make me feel better:

    Music by John Denver

    Music by Louie Armstrong

Flipping through my books by SARK

Reading "Spilling Open" by Sabrina Ward Harrison

A patch of sunlight breaking through the clouds and coming in my window.

    A hug from my daughter

    A hug from my sweetie

Reading favorite childhood books  (Anne of Green Gables, A Wrinkle in Time, Little Women)

Reading other women's blogs.  (I am most definitely not alone!)

What about you?  What cheers you up on an all around yukky day?

Edited to Add:  I'm also trying to feel more comfortable with just feeling sad sometimes, and not feeling like I have to "fix" myself if I do feel down.
