Black Widow
ARACHNAPHOBE WARNING! This is a black widow I made for a swap last year. InSeven of Nine471's she was talking about some spiders who had taken up residence in her laundry room, which is what made me think to post this. I know this is weird to some people, but I think black widows are really pretty spiders - all shiny and black and red.

That's really cool!
To the best of my knowledge we don't have anything poisonous in our area, although I do recall a story from my hubby's friend about an incident last summer.
He works in a steel factory and somebody found a black widow in the shop! They figure it made it's trip there in a shipment. Last I heard one of the guys took it home for a pet.
I don't know a lot about the ammendments they are attempting to pass in the US, although XxDuyxX's site enlightened me somewhat. I heard more about it around election time. It's one of those topics the goverment likes to use to keep everyone distracted from more important issues.
Even for us now, having a new government in power there is the threat that they will use the "notwithstanding clause" to overthrow the Supreme Court judgement. Of course they used that as a platform, and since they have been voted in (a minority goverment at that, and more due to the fact that most Canadians were mad at the Liberals and used the opportunity to give them a well needed time out) the point has been moot.
i'm a bit arachnaphobic (sp?)... mostly because i woke up on morning at this Christian summer camp thing my mom forced me to go to every year... and there was a freaking giant spider on my leg.... i smacked it off and it landed on this one chicks face on one of the bottom bunks...
i will never forget the screaming...
perhaps i'm not afraid of spiders... rather it's an underlying fear of Christian summer camps... i get this twitch whenever i hear "Kum By Yah"...
anywho... ya... i guess they couldn't attack anything else in my rant except my cursing... poor little virgin ears... pff...
LOL... ya... i'm looking forward to having kids but the sleep deprivation and all that... not so much... i'm sure when i am in that situation i'll be thinking... "man... i can't wait till you're five..."
I like that spider thing you made, it's pretty cool.
I used to be frightened and disgusted by spiders, but once I learned about them from a guy who has studied them for several decades, I got over my arachnaphobia. I'm more of an arachnaphile now. I won't let them crawl on me, but if one does get on me I gently shake it off instead of squishing it and shuddering. spiders are my favorite tiny creature. I will post the spder myths link on my site so others can learn to get over their fear like I did.
